Rempi youngsters learn to dance

Rempi village, situated some 30 kilometres along the north coast of Madang, is keeping its traditional songs and dances very much alive. The latest batch of youngsters recently held their debut performance in the village after months of practice. The mixture of boys and girls in their traditonal finery were led by the song/dance leaders and made the village proud with their performances. They performed a range of traditional songs, mainly for children with lively and entertaining patterns. As a Rempi villager who never really grew up in the village, I was invited to take pictures of the 'soim bilas' (display of finery) performance held at
my kandre's residence at the Sempi hamlet. I never had the opportunity to learn the singsings but was proud to see my nieces, nephews and bubus putting on a fine performance.
